I am very proud of my legislation which created the Cook County Cannabis Commission, which passed through the Cook County Board in December 2019.

Recreational Cannabis is a brand new industry which will affect, on all levels, the economic ecosystem of the State, County, and City. The creation of this industry is once in a generation occurrence, and we cannot afford to be reactive and not proactive. Illinois law, and what we do as a County and a City, will become the template for the rest of the Country to follow. Creating the Cook County Cannabis Commission allows for us to prioritize equity and inclusion in this industry. The work of the Cannabis Commission will be far- reaching, committed to developing strategies to spur investment and re-investment in the Disproportionately Impacted Areas of the County. The Social Equity initiative is ambitious, but it will take elected officials like me and my colleagues on all levels to work proactively to ensure true equity through action and inclusion.
