In March, I introduced my first piece of legislation to the Cook County Board – the Good Faith Effort Transparency Reporting Ordinance.

This ordinance will require that companies seeking to do business with Cook County, who request a waiver from the County’s MBE (Minority Business Enterprise) and WBE (Women Business Enterprise) participation goals, must justify their requests by reporting their efforts to engage and involve MBEs and WBEs. This ordinance outlines several important factors the County will consider in determining whether a bidding company’s request warrants a waiver. I was so pleased to receive unanimous support from the present commissioners in moving this ordinance to the Contract Compliance Committee for further discussion. And, I am so proud that this legislation will address concerns of all constituents county-wide regarding government transparency, will aid in more efficient government practices and cost, and will promote more participation of MBEs and WBEs.”
